Wat Chalong
Phuket's most important and popular Buddhist temple.
About Wat Chalong
Wat Chalong (Wat Chaithararam) is Phuket's largest and most important Buddhist temple. It is dedicated to two revered monks, Luang Pho Chaem and Luang Pho Chuang, who helped locals during the tin miners' rebellion of 1876.
The highlight is the tall Grand Pagoda (chedi), which you can climb for views over the temple grounds. It is an easy stop on the way to the Big Buddha and the southern beaches.
Getting there by car
Drive south on Route 402 to Phuket Town, then follow Chao Fa West Road (Route 4022) south towards Chalong. The temple is on the right, before the Chalong roundabout.
