Questions about places to visit by car
Wat Phra Thong, Nai Yang and Mai Khao beaches and the Heroines Monument are all within about 20 minutes of the airport – ideal on your first or last day.
You drive to the pier – Chalong, Rassada or Thap Lamu – park and take a boat. The car stays on the mainland or island side.
Most temples and viewpoints have free car parks. Popular beaches such as Patong and Kata have paid parking and fill up in high season.
Cover shoulders and knees, and take your shoes off where signs ask.
Three or four, if you group them by area – for example Wat Chalong, the Big Buddha and Promthep Cape in the south.
They are typical times in light traffic. Add extra time at rush hour and in heavy rain.
